The game includes a Solo Tour Mode for a single player and a Band World Tour (along with Quick Play) for two to four players. The game revolves around striking scrolling notes on the screen in time (scrolling vertically for drum and guitar) and getting the appropriate pitch for the vocals (scrolling horizontally at the top of the screen, along with the lyrics). Instead of just playing along with songs on the guitar, this game allows players to form an entire virtual band with up to four musicians, with various sequences for each of the three supported peripherals: guitar (electric and bass), drum, and microphone.
Rock Band, developed by the same people who created the Guitar Hero games, takes the concept further.
